Our Rank Structure is based on the historic Star League Ranks used throughout BattleTech history, which are in turn loosely based on historic, 20th Century NATO Army rank structures (for Officers and Other Ranks). Within 1CR, we have opted to include some additional non-canon SLDF ranks based on logical variations to the known SLDF ranks.
In practice, our Rank Structure is only semi-formal in nature. Promotion relies on a combination of time-served and completion of MWO-related training courses (the exact requirements can be viewed in this Forum post). It is primarily intended to assist with the day-to-day running of the Unit, and to help newer pilots identify those who can best assist them. Where appropriate, it may also be used for roleplay purposes, especially when working alongside other Units.
Expect in very rare (disciplinary) cases, our Rank Structure is not (and should not) be used to issue 'orders', and Unit Members are expected to operate largely without needing to make reference to it. Officers are selected by their peers primarily on the basis that they will contribute to the administrative and operational needs of the Unit.
The following Chart shows our Officer, and Other / Enlisted Ranks, along with their insignia and likely posting. All 'Other Ranks' at OR-4 and above are considered Non-Commisioned Officers (NCOs), while those at OR-8 and above are considered honouraryOfficers for Unit Administrative purposes.
Periodic additions and modifications are made to the way our Ranks operate, in order to maintain an effective command structure and ensure MechWarriors can be assigned appropriate postings.
